Featured in the May 2006 Snow & Ice Guide supplement of LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT magazine is Meyer President, Andrew L. Outcalt. The article focuses on how the plow industry has become more technology driven. Meyer is in the forefront of that technology due to the implementation of Lean manufacturing techniques, a new barcode system, and manufacturing improvements of Meyer Snowplows including reliable over-time construction. The story also addresses the fact that snowfall accumulation is down, but Mr. Outcalt is optimistic the demand for snow removal equipment will grow because society has become less tolerant of snow-covered roads and parking lots. Snow and ice control at airports are high priorities during winter conditions, thus a forum was needed to provide and share information on the latest products and technology available, along with shared experience by airport operations personnel.
Meyer was one of the founding companies that originated the Snow Symposium in 1966. Over the last 40 years, this event has grown from a handful of attendees in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to over 434 representing 290 airports from all over the world including Canada, Iceland, Japan, Denmark and Sweden.
Both civilian and military airports send staff to view the latest technology in snow and ice control and attend presentations of equipment and techniques.
A representative from Meyer was a speaker at the first General Session. The subject was technological developments of latest products and their application for airport operations and covered equipment manufactured by Meyer and other world-wide manufacturers.
Howard P. Fairfield Inc. of Skowhegan, Maine, a large distributor for Swenson Spreader, displayed a Swenson Airporter EV2000 Series spreader. This model is custom designed for airport runway and roadway ice control.
The next time you are flying into an airport facing snow conditions, you can be confident products like Meyer and Swenson, along with well-trained personnel will make your landing a safe one, and you will find the access roads and parking areas have been cleared of snow and ice conditions so that you can complete your trip safely.

Press from Sports Business Journal Posted 11/23/2005 11:19:10 AM

Another Snow Job: We’re always looking for non-traditional categories that use sponsorship creatively, and Cleveland-based Meyer Products’ use of a network of NFL teams to market its snowplow attachments is one of the best we’ve seen.

Sponsorships with the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings have garnered Meyer “official snowplow” designations with those teams. A similar agreement makes it the “Preferred Snowplow” of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meyer also receives radio, online and print inventory from the teams.

Meyer has offensive linemen (they “clear a path”) appearing in ads and making company appearances. Meyer also sponsors the Offensive Lineman of the Year award for each NFL club.

A ‘Plow Your Way To Hawaii” sweepstakes allows fans to vote for their favorite offensive lineman at participating dealers, with a sweeps that offers trips to the islands during the Pro Bowl.

A premium promotion offers plow purchasers a jacket proclaiming Meyer the “Official Snowplow of Pro Football’s Snow Country.” Game hospitality and dealer visits are also conducted.

In terms of building relationships with our dealers, and giving them an avenue to entertain their customers, this has really been a powerful tool for us,” said Meyer executive vice president Andy Outcalt.
